Compare Caravan Insurance

Own a caravan or thinking about buying one? Caravan insurance covers you financially if something were to happen to your caravan or the contents within it. Whether you have a towed or static caravan we’ve got you covered with access to a range of top UK insurers.

Caravan insurance unlike Car Insurance, is not compulsory. However, like all things valuable, it is certainly wise to look to insure your caravan. The financial protection caravan insurance can offer is knowing that if your caravan was stolen for example and needed to be replaced, you would not be solely liable for buying a replacement yourself.

What Levels Of Cover Are There?

New for old – Your caravan is insured for the value of a brand-new replacement.

Market value– Your insurer will pay out the current value of your caravan. If your caravan is 15 years old, the amount paid out would reflect the price for a similar caravan of its age.

Static Caravan Insurance

Static Caravans also known as mobile homes, are normally situated on holiday parks or similar.

Static caravan insurance shares a likeness with home insurance, policies can cover damage or theft of your caravan, as well as cover its contents.

Touring Caravan Insurance

Touring caravans are normally towed by a car and is designed to be taken from place to place.

If you were to be involved in an accident whilst driving, your car insurance providing it is fully comprehensive, will cover damage to your car but not your caravan. If you’d like to protect your caravan, it is worth looking at Touring Caravan Insurance.

Motorhome Insurance

Motorhomes are deemed as a driveable vehicle, therefore like car insurance, it is a legal requirement to have at least third-party insurance.

Please see our Motorhome Insurance for more details.

How are Caravan Insurance quotes worked out?

There’s are many elements that determine how much you pay for your caravan insurance. Insurance companies use multiple factor to work out a picture of the likelihood of you making a claim, which is reflected in your price.

The main factors are:

1. Your age | 2. Where your caravan is stored | 3. Your Driving History (claims or no-claims) | 4. The caravan you have |

5. Your voluntary excess | 6. The security of your caravan

Your age – Driving experience is a significant factor to insurers. Normally, the younger you are, the less driving experience you will have. From the perspective of an insurer this means you are more likely to have an accident and therefore make a claim.

Where your caravan is stored – By storing your caravan in a secure site, you can help to reduce your policy premium.

Your driving history – This includes no claims, previous claims or accidents which give insurers an idea of how you drive. If you have made a claim in the past 5 years, it could affect the cost of your insurance. Some insurers will only take previous claims within 3 years so its worth shopping around if you have claimed. Driving convictions such as points will also contribute to the amount you pay.

The caravan you have– The caravan you have could have a large impact on your insurance costs. Expensive, high feature models will cost insurers more to repair or replace if you were to be involved an accident for example. Valuable caravans could also be a target for thieves.

Your voluntary excess – The rule of thumb is the higher your excess, the lower the price of your insurance. Insurers see a higher voluntary excess from the owner as a risk mitigation.

The security of your caravan– Caravans are normally fitted with some security features, however any actions you do to improve security could help to keep your insurance prices down. The majority of touring caravan policies require wheel champs or hitch-locks as a minimum.
